On August 3rd the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released revised estimates of annual new HIV infections in the United States, finding that 56,300 people became newly infected with HIV in 2006. The new number is 40 percent higher than previously cited figure (40,000) and provides more accurate overall estimates and detailed assessments about infections among specific populations.
By the end of 2008 there will be over 4800 Central Texans living with HIV.
